Translating Herman Gorter’s ‘May’: A Labour of Love

Herman Gorter's epic poem May has finally been translated into English. It took Paul Vincent two years. 'The fact that only brief extracts of May were available in English did less than justice to Gorters ambitious project.'

Herman Gorter's May, an epic poem about youth and a landmark work for Dutch literature, was already translated into French, German and Frisian.
