Antoon Van Dyck Visits Munich

Flemish painter Antoon Van Dyck is currently at display in the Alte Pinakothek.

Van Dyck is renowned for his life-like portrets of royals and other well-to-do people in the 17th-century. Even in his lifetime, he was hailed as the best portraitpainter ever and therefore he worked often abroad. But it took a long time and a lot of trial and error before he perfected his art. The exhibition in the Alte Pinakothek is based on years of research and it shows this artistic development using about 100 paintings, sketches,... A lot of these come from private collectors and have been brought together for the first time.
