The mathematician Brouwer's heritage is nowadays well-recognised. In a number of areas in mathematics and computer science, his methods and ideas are accepted as exactly right. Topology has undergone a metamorphosis after Brouwer left the area, strong and efficient algebraic tools have replaced the ingenious geometric arguments and constructions of Brouwer. Nonetheless, his influence is generally acknowledged.
