Why are the Flemish fond of cycle racing? Take The Tour of Flanders, that “High Mass” of cycling. A nation seems enraptured. Is it the admiration for the hardship, the often lonely and always unequal struggle between the athlete and the rain and wind, dust and mud, cobbles and hills?
