‘If you really want to get to know a group of people, look at the way they deal with the youngsters they were given and listen to the stories they tell them,' says an African proverb. A look at the literature for young readers of a particular cultural group might very well reveal something about the specific nature of that group What does recent Flemish literature for the young have to say? What themes, motifs and styles stand out? Are there noticeable trends that set the Flemish psyche in another light? A bit of sightseeing is in order, through an intriguing landscape, with books for children a nd young adults marking our route.
