Ons Erfdeel vzw and Poëziecentrum vzw asked nine youngsters from the Low Countries to create poetic films based on their favourite Dutch-language poem. Tharim Cornelisse (b. 1995, Amsterdam) made a film after the poem De methode iv. (The Method iv.) by Arno Van Vlierberghe, from the anthology Vloekschrift, published by Het Balanseer in 2017. The video poetry project Moving Verses is made possible with the support of the Dutch Foundation for Literature.

The Method iv.

How do we find each other?
Assume a form, and diverge from it.
Grab a spectator, and alter the distance as inconceivable.
Spew a stripe in the street, and make what is safe ridiculous.
Clash with the nuance, all nuances, drive them onto the rocks.
Sharpen a thought on the body, give it an endless horizon.
Appear on the radar, mutate, become an impossibly grotesque stain.
Choose a side, choose a hundred sides and make them public.
Seek the conflict, dig in, and cherish it.
Find an intention, and strangle it.
Find a body, the body, make a pagan symbol of the scar.
Build a fence, fill it with opinions, deadly ideas and gall.
Found a centre and set it on fire.

De methode iv.

Hoe vinden we elkaar?
Neem een vorm aan, en wijk ervan af.
Grijp een toeschouwer, en vermaak de afstand als ondenkbaar.
Spuw een streep op straat, en maak het veilige ridicuul.
Bots op de nuance, alle nuances, drijf ze op de klippen.
Scherp een denken aan het lichaam, geef het een eindeloze horizon.
Verschijn op de radar, muteer, word een onmogelijk groteske vlek.
Kies een kant, kies honderd kanten, en maak ze openbaar.
Zoek het conflict, graaf je in, en koester het.
Vind een bedoeling, en wurg ze.
Vind een lichaam, hét lichaam, maak van het litteken een heidens symbool.
Bouw een omheining, vul ze met opvattingen, doodse ideeën en gal.
Sticht een midden en steek het in brand.
