Belgium and the Netherlands have a chaotic political year behind them. Holland is back on track, albeit in a locomotive with a two-stroke engine (a minority government of the Christian Democratic CDA and the liberal VVD), supported by the ‘one-man' and Islamophobic PVV of Geert Wilders. Tricky. In April 2011 the Belgians are still without a government. Perhaps only external pressure, in the form of international speculation on the extent of Belgian debt, will give rise to a greater ‘sense of urgency'.
