Although the Netherlands is no longer the 'Christian nation' of the 19th century, the importance of religion nowadays should not be underestimated. Apart from being an important historical heritage, Christian ideology and the churches still have a role to play in the pursuit and fulfilment of important contemporary aims such as health and happiness.
