This painter may base himself on reality, yet he never literally shows it. That is due to the translation process, from reality to photograph to painting, in which all superfluous details are jettisoned. What you see is what you don't get: a viaduct over a freeway, the shadows cast by a number of buildings, the kerb of a sidewalk.
