How to Paint Water. The Leie as a Stream of Inspiration

Since time immemorial locals and visitors have been impressed by the beauty of the river valley between the various villages along the banks of the river Leie, to the south of Ghent. Near the end of the 19th century painters and sculptors, writers and poets, hermits and apostles of nature found their way to this favourite place. As a result the Leie drew its own curve through Flemish art history in the first quarter of the twentieth century.
