Diepenbrock is surely the best composer the Northern Netherlands has produced since Sweelinck. In his major works he tacked between his love of German culture (Goethe, Nietzsche, Wagner, Mahler), French culture (Verlaine, Debussy) and Latin culture (Palestrina and the great Catholic thinkers).
