The clear, powerful paintings of Robert Zandvliet demonstrate the zest for life of the art of painting. He shows that the white canvas still holds a promise and hides a world of boundless possibilities. He is not encumbered by the ballast of the art of painting as handed down through the centuries, but has concentrated from the beginning on what for him is the essential question: what is perception? His concept of perception is not simply observing something, but actually plumbing the depths of the image.
